Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ⅓ cup cider vinegar
  • ½ onion
  • 2 cups Dr. Pepper
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch cayenne, optional
Instructions
  1. Combine brown sugar, honey, and vinegar in small bowl. Set aside.
  2. Mince onion and put in a pot with oil. Cook on medium heat until onions are soft. Do not brown them.
  3. Add the Dr. Pepper and tomato sauce to the pot.
  4. Cook until Dr. Pepper reduces a bit.
  5. Add salt and a pinch of cayenne if you want heat.
  6. Simmer for an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how thick you would like the sauce to be. Stir frequently to keep sauce from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  7. Taste and modify seasonings often.
  8. Pour over whatever meat and veggies you choose.
Notes
You may want to blend the sauce to break down the minced onion, but this is optional.
