Autumn-Themed Dips and Sauces

Autumn-Themed Dips and Sauces

With autumn well underway and the holidays at our doorstep, it’s only natural that you’d want to make pumpkin, squash, and other harvest-y dips and sauces. I know I do and so do many other food bloggers that I follow on FoodBuzz and Twitter.

A few fall-inspired sauce and dip recipes have really stood out to me on the social networks, so I thought a roundup post could be helpful, especially since so many of you are brainstorming recipe ideas for Dipstock. Right?

First up on my list, Alisha at The Ardent Epicure gave us a sneak peak into her Dipstock doings. Check out her Roasted Autumn Squash Dip and Crostini — she puts the dip in a hallowed out pumpkin!

After a quick Twitter search, I was happy to come across a blog I hadn’t seen before: Goodeness Gracious. Cris made an easy, sweet pumpkin dip and served it with pancakes. Yes, I said pancakes.

She had me at apple crisp with pumpkin butter. No, really. Vegacious made pumpkin butter inspired by happy childhood memories. I’d like to make some pumpkin butter memories.

Spicie Foodie says this will be her last squash recipe for awhile, but I hope not. At least not if the other recipes she has up her sleeve are as good looking as her Healthy Spicy Squash Spread.

I particularly like reading “how-to” blog posts that offer a step-by-step explanation in pictures. Eating Abroad shows you how to make Cinnamon Apple Spice Cake with Caramel Apple Sauce. I’m thinking I need to make some waffles to go with caramel apple sauce…

Crockpot Applesauce never looked so good. Dana atย Food for Thought had more apples than she knew what to do with. Then she plugged in the Crockpot.

Kate at Savour Fare has gotten into the fall festive spirit even though she’s in LA where the season isn’t quite as colorful as other parts of the world. But why should that even matter? It’s pumpkin season,ย darn it. Let’s get cookin’. Kate’s Pappardelle with Pumpkin Poblano Cream Sauce is not near as complicated as it sounds. I’m looking forward to trying this one.

When Eat Dance Live said that it was the “Best Pumpkin Sauce EVER,” how could I not click on the link? Two words: coconut butter. Two more words: go there.

This last one is not a dip or a sauce, but it sounds so good that I had to include it. Get ready for it…Pumpkin Tiramasu Cupcakes. Does it get much better than this? Head off to Cake Duchess to see what I mean.

ps – Tonight is the Saucey Affair in Denver. If you’re local, I hope to see you there. Support a good cause! Eat sauce! Click here for 9Health Fair Saucey Affair details.

Aha! I’m excited to make my Dipstock sauce, now that I know what ingredient I want to work with. Take a guess. BUTTERNUT SQUASH. You probably thought I was going to say pumpkin. Actually, when I think about the joys of autumn, I think of my butternut squash soup and I picture a pumpkin. I love the recipes you posted – they’ll definitely give me some great ideas. The pancakes and pumpkin sauce sound amaaaaazing. And just a final note, you know there’s no way I missed the “coconut butter” in your post. I think my eyes zoomed right to that line when I clicked on this post ๐Ÿ™‚ Looooove coconut. Looooove pumpkin/squash.

I absolutely thought of you with coconut butter. I still think about your coconut sauce from time to time. Maybe I’ll make that for Dipstock!

      • Chung says:

Oooooo! Speaking of that coconut sauce, I found a way to improve it! If you do try making it for Dipstock, I would suggest adding some cornstarch (dissolve 1 tspn cornstarch in 1/4 cup water) at the end. It helps to thicken the sauce. That makes it more “saucy” and “dippable” and just more awesome. My husband said it was a big improvement.

Thanks so much for the mention! I have already made this dip twice in one week!! Can’t wait to try some of your other suggestions.

  8. Hey there, these all sound great…I will have to stop by and check out those here that I am not familiar with ๐Ÿ™‚
I am not local so I will not be at the event, but it sounds great.
And thanks for having here on your list ๐Ÿ™‚
